Few things beat this

I live near the sea. I could go any day if I wanted to—it’s just a 15-minute walk away at most. I was born near the sea and spent a big part of my life close to it. When I was near, I took it for granted, as if it wasn’t anything special. When I wasn’t, I missed it. Now I know that being close to the sea is a privilege, a blessing that few people have.

I love listening to the sea. I love that we can step into it, but only a little. Always with respect, and some even with fear. The sea is imposing. It’s a mystery. It’s so many things, and I appreciate it for that. Vast like existence and mysterious like life itself.

After a long time, I learned to love the sea. Today, I’m writing while listening to the waves, and I feel lucky to be able to do so. Because I know not everyone has the chance. Because many people have never seen the sea, and others dream of seeing it—just like I dream of touching the snow.

Children play in the sand, others swim in its salty waters. Many just lay under the sun (like me), and the hotel DJ plays reggaeton—because that’s what we, the people of the coast, listen to at the beach, here in the beautiful land where I was born.

I drove an hour just to enjoy a beach different from the one I see every day. That’s how important the sea is. I wonder what the sea means to others in different parts of the world.

I hope you get the chance to see the sea and experience everything it has to offer. Thanks for reading.
