Meet my cats! — Mambis

This is the main reason I decided to upgrade my Bearblog account.
Yup, so I can post pictures of my cats.

I spend a lot of time at home, so the beings I interact with the most are my cats. I love them so much. Without them, I probably would have lost my mind from isolation by now. But they’re always there when I need to walk around a little, talk to someone (even if they don’t understand me), or just take a break from work.

One of my favorite pastimes is just watching them because cats, in general, are fascinating creatures to me. So, I wanted to dedicate a post to each of these family members and talk about what makes each of them unique.

Mambis-eyes1 As you can probably tell, she has a very cartoonish look. I constantly remind her that her little eyes look straight out of an animated show and that her face is hilarious (in the best way possible), like one of those grumpy characters who secretly have a heart of gold.

Her breed is known as tortoiseshell, también conocida como carey en español.

She’s tiny and has gained a little weight lately, but hey, we don’t judge here.

She meows very softly and only when she wants my attention, usually when she’s hungry or wants to go outside to stare at the sky or feel the fresh air. She also meows like crazy whenever she hears me open a can because she thinks it’s either tuna or a treat for her.

She loves Churu, and her favorite is the salmon one, though sometimes I suspect she doesn’t even notice the difference in flavors because of how fast she eats them.

Mambis doesn’t like drinking water straight from her bowl, she prefers to drink from my glasses or the water that drips from the flower pots when I water the plants. She’s one of those cats that eat a lot, very quickly, and then doesn’t ask for food again for hours.

She also doesn’t like being picked up (like most cats) or hugged, and sometimes I have to force her when I desperately need some comfort.

She’s friendly with other cats, but if they get aggressive with her, she doesn’t let them push her around and fights back. When she’s mad at other cats, she makes these deep, guttural noises, like a possessed cat. But she’s really sweet, I promise.

Mambis-sinorejas

When working at my computer, she likes to jump onto my lap and sleep there while keeping me company. If I’m lying in bed, she usually comes over and curls up on my chest. She purrs a lot and loves it when I gently pull her face back (just like in the photo above).

Last but not least, she was adopted in 2020, and her birthday is in March.

I like to think of her as a loving cat who is fair with everyone. She puts in the effort to have a good relationship with her human but doesn’t let her boundaries be crossed. You could say she has a calm temper.

I’m grateful to share my days with her.

  1. Her original name was Ámbar, but like any good pet’s name, it evolved until she became known as Mambis.
